Teenage Pregnancy
One major problem that could have occurred in Story of a Girl was that Deanna could have gotten pregnant. Luckily, she didn’t, but unplanned teenage pregnancy is a major problem now a days. There are many health risks for the baby, and teenage born babies are more likely to suffer health, social, and emotional problems. The mother also has a lot of complications and risks. Approximately one-third of today’s teens become pregnant, 80% of that is unintentional. Teenage pregnancy has decreased slightly through the races and ethnicities of people, but still around 1 million of US teens get pregnant every year. In order to lower the teenage birth rate, we need to understand the consequences of teen pregnancy. Teen mothers usually get a lower income. Around 80% of teen moms rely on welfare at one point. Also, teen moms are more likely to drop out of school. Teen pregnancy is a major issue, and I think that everyone needs to understand how serious it actually is, and how easily you can become pregnant. I want to give research to people and try to lower the amount of teens becoming pregnant.
