- Kate. Sister, daughter, and middle child with cancer.
- 16- No hair from chemotherapy, she is very pale and thin. When she was little, she had light blonde hair, but it is all gone now because of the cancer. Kate is very sickly looking because the cancer is throughout her body now.
- She is a student, daughter, and trying to live as long as she can while fighting cancer (APL).
- Kate sometimes has a bad attitude, is rude to Anna and her family a lot, tries to stay strong even when she is struggling and close to death, but she likes to joke around and she loves her sister and her family very much.
- Kate likes to watch soap operas, read fashion magazines, watch cute boys, and try to keep up with the latest gossip.
- Kate's quirks are that she jokes around a lot about cancer, probably to cover-up her fear of it.
- She is closest to Anna in the story.
- "Why? I'm dying.' When I frowned, she said, 'Well, you are.' Then she grinned. 'I just happen to be more gifted at it than you are.'" (Page 134)
- This quote really shows that she is aware of her possible death, but she tries to joke around about it and be lighthearted about the situation even when everyone knows what will probably happen to her.
