Color Symbolism Writing Assignment
“Masque of the Red Death”
In Edgar Allen Poe’s short story, “Masque of the Read Death,” there are many items in the story that have a far deeper meaning painting, meaning that they are more symbolic. In the story, Prince Prospers held this masquerade in his palace which has seven different rooms all different colors. The color that is being written about is one of the earlier colors in the hall of rooms, the green room, which is also the third room in the palace. Green is in the story as a room color, but the color green also deeper means jealousy, growth, new, youth, something that needs training, and green best symbolizes life of a teenager around the ages of 11 to 18.
In the seven stages of a human’s life, the stages are set up in colors. There is a certain order that takes place, and the colors of the stages never change. The color green is the third stage of a human’s life, around the ages of 11 to 18. At this point of life, kids becoming a teenager and they are growing up. Teenagers begin to have different feelings than what they had as a child. They start becoming jealous of people no matter who they are; sometimes the phrase “green with envy” come up meaning you’re very jealous. New feelings and emotions come out as a teenager.
Green relates to my life in a lot of ways. First of all, I am a teenager so all of the emotions and jealousy and feelings are what I feel every day. I am in the stage green right now, so everything in this paper is what teens like me are dealing with in life. This color symbolizes a stage in life because it shows new things, a need for training, being jealous, and making money, just like teenagers every day. In “The Masque of the Red Death,” Edgar Allen Poe uses seven different room colors symbolizing the different stages of life, green being the teenage years of needing training and growth.
